Small Town Roots, Big Ambitions

Named after the English poet John Milton and founded as a mill town on Sixteen Mile Creek, Milton has grown from a quiet rural community into one of the most sought-after addresses in the Greater Toronto Area. Between 2001 and 2011, it was the fastest-growing municipality in all of Canada — and it’s still going strong.

What draws people here isn’t just affordable housing relative to the GTA. It’s the five Conservation Halton parks on your doorstep, the Niagara Escarpment cutting through town, top-rated Halton Region schools, and a genuine small-town feel that hasn’t been lost in the growth.

“Milton is where young families come to put down roots — and then wonder why they didn’t come sooner.”

With easy access to Highways 401 and 407, GO Transit service to Toronto, and proximity to Pearson Airport, Milton gives you the best of both worlds: escarpment living with big-city connectivity.

Milton by the Numbers

01

Astronaut Chris Hadfield Grew Up Here

Canada’s most famous astronaut — Commander of the International Space Station and the man who sang “Space Oddity” in orbit — was raised in Milton. A local school, road, and park are all named after him.

02

Birthplace of the Robertson Screw

The square-socket screwdriver was invented here. P.L. Robertson moved his manufacturing company to Milton in 1908, and the Robertson screw became a Canadian icon — still the standard in every hardware store in the country.

03

NHL Stars Started Here

Milton minor hockey has produced some serious talent — including Toronto Maple Leafs captain John Tavares, Sam Gagner, and Daniel Carcillo. Not bad for a town that was under 30,000 people when most of them laced up.

04

A Lake That Defined an Epoch

Crawford Lake’s undisturbed sediment layers are so perfectly preserved that scientists proposed it as the global marker for the start of the Anthropocene — the geological age defined by human impact on the planet.
